Logitech denies subscription-based 'forever mouse' amid CEO's comments

Forever mouse is an idea and it won’t be realised for now it seems. The latest update on the much-talked about Logitech’s Forever Mouse is that the company has denied making any such device. Logitech has refuted reports suggesting that the company is developing such a mouse with a subscription fee for ongoing software updates. The denial follows backlash over comments made by CEO Hanneke Faber, who had hinted at the possibility during a podcast interview with The Verge.

In response to these reports, Logitech’s communications head, Nicole Kenyon, clarified, “There are no plans for a subscription mouse.” This statement was issued to several media outlets in the wake of Faber’s remarks.

During the podcast, Faber discussed a concept from Logitech called a “forever mouse” designed for long-term use. She described the mouse as being “a little heavier” than standard models and featuring “great software and services” with frequent updates.

The comments made by Faber widespread backlash from consumers who expressed concerns about the potential for recurring costs and the loss of ownership over their devices. When asked about the potential for a subscription model, Faber responded with “possibly,” suggesting that it could provide customers with ongoing support without worrying about upgrades. However, she emphasized that this was more of a speculative idea rather than a concrete plan.

Kenyon has downplayed these comments, stating, ” The mouse mentioned is not an actual or planned product but a peek into provocative internal thinking on future possibilities for more sustainable consumer electronics.”
