Lava ProWatch X review: Smartwatch worth buying

Lava is no longer just a smartphone brand. The company has picked up its pace in the past few years and is experimenting with various spaces in the Indian tech arena including feature phones, and smart and basic tech accessories. The company has been steadily spreading its roots in the tech market, especially with its Prowatch sub-brand.

Lava launched its sub-brand with ProWatch last year and with the Prowatch X, it’s evident that it is eyeing to carve a niche in the budget smartwatch segment offering a blend of fitness-focused features, eye-catching design, and smart functionalities – all rolled up in an affordable price box. But does it live up to the expectations? Let’s find out.

Design and display – Premium feel at budget price

I’ve been using the ProWatch X for over a week now, and the first thing that stands out is its design. The watch looks great! It combines a sleek yet sturdy build that feels both stylish and durable. While the bezels are a bit chunky and could have been slimmer, the overall look is still impressive on the wrist. The smartwatch features an aluminium alloy body, giving it a premium feel, while the silicone strap is high-quality and comfortable for all-day wear. Plus, if you’re after more variety, it’s also available with nylon and metal strap options.

Moving on to the display, Lava ProWatch X does justice here. The watch shows off a 1.43-inch AMOLED display which is vibrant and sharp, making notifications and fitness stats easy to read. With 500 nits of brightness, outdoor visibility is decent, though not the best in extremely bright conditions. The always-on display feature is a nice touch, making it handy to check the time at a glance.

Battery life – Goes a long way

Lava claims the Prowatch X offers up to 10 days of battery life, and in the real world, it pretty much stands true to its claims. It lasts around a week on a full charge with Bluetooth calling, heart rate monitoring, notifications enabled and normal usage for straight 8 hours a day.

Smartwatches are all about convenience, and one of the biggest factors that contribute to this is battery life I feel. The constant need to charge or the worry that your watch might die at any moment can take the fun out of owning one. Thankfully, the ProWatch X proves to be a reliable companion when it comes to battery life. I used it during my daily two-hour Zumba classes, and it didn’t disappoint. It even delivered on its aerobic training feature, making it a reliable partner for my workout sessions.

Fitness and health tracking – Accurate and useful

For fitness enthusiasts, the Prowatch X brings some segment-first features like Body Energy Monitoring that gives a score based on stress, sleep, and activity. There is a Heart Rate Variability (HRV) that tracks fluctuations between heartbeats, useful for stress and recovery insights. VO2 Max measurement gives a handy metric for runners and cyclists to track cardiovascular fitness.

The accuracy of health tracking is also impressive for this price range. Compared to other budget smartwatches, the Prowatch X delivers quite reliable heart rate, SpO2, and sleep tracking results.

Smart features- More than a smartwatch

Beyond fitness, the Prowatch X offers useful daily features like the Bluetooth Callin, in-built GPS and Compass, Altimeter and Barometer, Pomodoro Timer and AQI Updates. These are the features that aren’t common in this segment.

I also took calls directly from the ProWatch X, and the voice clarity was good. The connection via Bluetooth was quick allowing me to handle calls with ease without any annoying delays or stutters.

Verdict

For a price of Rs 4,499, the Prowatch X stands on its promises with solid build quality, practical fitness features, and useful functionalities like Bluetooth calling and GPS. The battery goes long too. If you’re looking for an affordable fitness companion that stands out from generic budget options, the Prowatch X is worth buying.
