According to supply chain analysis, the high material costs, particularly for the specialised panel, hinge, and lightweight components, are driving the price toward the upper end of market expectations.

As Samsung and Google continue to dominate the foldable smartphone space with their feature-loaded book-style flagships, Apple is rumoured to do something similar. By 2026, Apple is likely to sell a foldable iPhone, potentially launched alongside the next-gen iPhone 18 series. For now, the device is apparently called the iPhone Ultra Foldable, and we have hints on what this iPhone could cost.

The foldable iPhone is not only anticipated to be a major technological leap for the Apple ecosystem but is also projected to carry a bloated price tag, potentially reaching $2,399.

This price estimate, shared by Fubon Research and several analysts, places the rumoured foldable well above the $2,000 mark previously speculated. The premium pricing is believed to be the reason Apple may apply the ‘Ultra’ moniker, positioning it as the most exclusive and high-end device in the iPhone lineup.

iPhone Ultra Foldable: What we know about it so far

The expected 2026 launch is viewed as a well-thought-out strategic move. Apple appears to be waiting for foldable screen technology to fully mature, aiming to enter the market with a highly refined product that avoids the early-generation issues faced by rivals like Samsung and Google. Industry rumours suggest the device will feature a major breakthrough, i.e., a crease-free display design.

According to supply chain analysis, the high material costs, particularly for the specialised panel, hinge, and lightweight components, are driving the price toward the upper end of market expectations.

Will the iPhone Fold Ultra be competitive?

At an estimated price of $2,399, the foldable iPhone would be significantly more expensive than its main rivals. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be priced around $1,999, and the rumoured Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold will cost around $1,799. This pricing strategy reflects Apple’s historical trend of targeting the high-margin, ultra-premium segment of the market.

Despite the steep cost, Fubon Research predicts that the foldable iPhone could achieve a 7% market penetration rate and forecasts total sales of approximately 15.4 million units in its lifecycle, with around 5.4 million units sold in 2026 alone.

Further leaks from industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggest the foldable will be part of the iPhone 18 lineup. Kuo also pointed to the use of advanced ultra-thin cover glass technology, likely supplied by Corning and handled by General Interface Solutions (GIS), which is essential for achieving the right balance of durability and flexibility in a folding screen.
