Elon Musk has officially announced that the newest iteration of xAI’s Grok language model will roll out this week. The launch is set for July 9 at 8 PM Pacific Time, which corresponds to 8:30 AM IST on Thursday. This update follows Musk’s earlier statement last month indicating that Grok 4 would be unveiled “shortly after July 4.”
Recently, doubts have emerged regarding Grok-related announcements, especially after Musk pledged to release Grok 3.5 to SuperGrok subscribers back in May—a launch that never materialized. However, it now appears that xAI is bypassing version 3.5 entirely and forging ahead with Grok 4, as the competition in the AI landscape continues to intensify.
In a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Elon Musk confirmed the launch by stating, “Grok 4 will go live during a livestream on Wednesday at 8 PM PT @xAI.”
Grok 3.5 was initially expected to mark a major advancement over earlier versions, but xAI eventually overhauled parts of the training architecture, leading the team to move forward with an entirely new iteration instead.
In the lead-up to the launch, users on X have once again discovered mentions of several upcoming Grok 4 variants. Among them is a model named “grok-4-prod-mimic,” which is said to perform exceptionally well in business-focused tasks such as data extraction, programming, and content summarization.
The model is also equipped with extensive expertise across specialized fields like finance, healthcare, legal studies, and scientific research. However, “grok-4-prod-mimic” isn’t the only addition to the Grok family. Another upcoming variant, known as “Grok 4 Code,” is described in xAI’s console as a dedicated “coding companion,” tailored to assist developers with programming tasks.
