Google has good news for Pixel users seeking access to advanced AI capabilities on more affordable smartphones. In its most recent feature update for Pixel devices that is already rolling out to users now, the company extends the mobile-friendly Gemini Nano model, previously exclusive to Pixel 8 Pro owners, to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8A users as well.
While Apple recently unveiled new AI features for its platforms, similar to Google’s initial announcement, Apple has limited its Apple Intelligence to users with the latest iPhone 15 Pro.
“Our latest Feature Drop is here, and it’s packed with incredible new capabilities for your device, including Gemini Nano coming to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a as a developer option, and Car Crash Detection to Pixel Watch 2, plus so much more. These features begin rolling out to devices today and will continue over the next few weeks,” Mikaela Kraft, product marketing manager at Pixel, wrote in a blog post announcing the release of update.
If you have a Pixel 8 Pro or another device with Gemini Nano turned on in developer settings, you can now access more detailed summaries of recorded conversations. Also, exclusive to the Pixel 8 family, there’s a Find My Device update that can find your phone even if it’s turned off or the battery is dead for up to 23 hours. You can now also connect your phone to a larger screen using the USB-C port for easier viewing.
