Google Pixel 9a, Google’s budget Pixel smartphone sequel to the Google Pixel 8a, has leaked online giving us a good look at the launch, sale date, price as well as key specs. The Pixel 8a notably launched earlier than usual in May last year. The Pixel 9a will launch even earlier, according to reports, which is to say that Google might not have any new phone to show off at Google I/O 2025 once again.
Going by the history of these phones, the Pixel 9a should be the most affordable smartphone in the Pixel 9 series, falling right below the Google Pixel 9. The term “budget” is subjective since Google’s affordable phones still end up costing a lot of money. The Pixel 8a came in at a starting price of Rs 52,999 in India. The upcoming Pixel 9a will reportedly have the same starting price as the Pixel 8a in the US, which is $499 for the 128GB model. The 256GB version is tipped to cost a bit higher, at $599.
The Pixel 9a launch is pegged for mid-March with pre-orders to start from March 19. The Pixel 9a sale will reportedly start from March 26 (via Android Headlines). We can expect India launch and availability around the same time.
The same report takes the lid off the design of the Pixel 9a, with the big differentiating feature being a redesigned camera bar which sits flush with the body of the smartphone. It is said to have the same 6.28-inch display as the Pixel 8a but it is tipped to be slightly lighter at 185.9 grams which given the quoted battery size—which is 5060mAh—is impressive. With the big battery and compact form factor, the Pixel 9a could be a battery beast. The processor inside is expected to be the Google Tensor G4, same as the Pixel 9 series devices.
Elsewhere, the Pixel 9a will reportedly come in a choice of Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony.
