After Microsoft, Google, the tech giant, has laid off around 100 employees from many of its Cloud units.

The company seems to have notified employees last week of the cloud cuts. As reported by an internal correspondence viewed by CNBC, the roles in sales, consulting, “go to market” strategy, operations and engineering, among others, were eliminated.

The report comes after the California-based tech giant laid off an unspecified number of employees across different teams in April as it cracks down on costs.

Google Layoffs: Why the cut offs?

From what it is understood, at least 100 positions were cut. Earlier Google had also laid off hundreds of employees in January. The layoff came after a slew of recent job cuts across the tech and media industry as companies seem to have been struggling with economic uncertainty.

However, in response to the sudden layoff, it looks like Google is less affected. Contradictory to this, “We continue to evolve our business to meet our customers’ priorities and the significant opportunity ahead,” a spokesperson for Google said Reuters in an emailed statement.

“We maintain our commitment to investing in areas that are critical to our business and ensure our long-term success,” Google added further.

The road ahead!

It looks like Google has been conducting ongoing layoffs since early 2023. Reportedly, since then employees have complained about working on tighter deadlines. Some also complained that there are fewer resources to work with.

Additionally, some said that there are less opportunities for internal advancement even if the company seems to  record profit.

Furthermore, when asked about more details about the constant layoffs. The people familiar with the matter refused to provide details and just said that ‘mass layoffs,’ are quite common. They also asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to speak about the layoffs.
