The company acknowledges the problem and advises affected users to reinstall the YouTube app directly from the App Store. This reinstallation process is intended to ensure users have the latest, stable version of the app, resolving the crashing issues.
“The issue is fixed! If you’re using an iOS device, please reinstall the app. Thanks for your patience while we looked into this,” Google stated.
Apart from iOS, even Android users reported the app either crashing immediately upon launch or freezing and becoming unresponsive. Google quickly acknowledged these problems on its official support forums, confirming that a subset of users across various devices were indeed impacted.
Although some Reddit discussions suggested that ad blockers or third-party tools might be causing the crashes, Google has not attributed the issue to those factors. Instead, the problem seems to have stemmed from a bug in a recent app update, impacting only a limited group of users.
YouTube stated that users experienced widespread freezing and sudden app crashes. Although the company has not provided specific technical details, the trouble seems to have started following the rollout of update version 20.23.3, which began on June 9.
