Google I/O 2025 dates have officially been announced. This year, Google I/O will take place on May 20 and May 21. Interestingly, this falls right in the middle of Microsoft’s Build conference which is scheduled for May 19-May 22. For those unaware, I/O is Google’s biggest developer event of the year, where all things software come together, to envision the future of Google products from Search to Android. Hardware announcements aren’t typical but possible.

Taking a page from history and convention, Google kicked off the I/O proceedings for this year with a cool puzzle game called “Prism Shift.” The idea is for people—can be anybody—to guess and figure out the date of the event at their own leisure, before Google comes along and makes the final reveal. All this started a bit earlier than usual this time, but the actual event is happening slightly later compared to last year. Google I/O 2024 was held on May 14.

Given the race to one-up competition in artificial intelligence, Google is expected to go big on AI at I/O 2025. The trend was at peak crescendo last year but with startups like DeepSeek joining the conversation, things can go higher in 2025 with Google doubling down on announcements and up the ante.

I/O 2024 was packed to the gills with AI with Google announcing everything from text-to-image models—Imagen 3—to models for generating videos—Veo—to more powerful TPUs— Trillium—to boost performance and efficiency in the cloud.

Google says that I/O 2025 will be “open to everyone online” and so anybody can tune in and watch livestreamed keynotes and sessions to stay up to date with all the updates while select media and developer community will have the option for in-person attendance at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.

“The countdown to Google I/O begins now! Join us live on May 20 and 21 from Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View and online at io.google,” Google mentions in a blog post, adding that “At I/O, you’ll learn more about Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android and more.”

On day one, which is May 20, you’ll get to see the official keynote headlined by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other senior executives who will take stage one by one to make product-related announcements. The event will then open for “sessions, demos, networking opportunities and more continuing on day two.”
