Google Camera has been a Pixel-exclusive for several years now. And the rebranding to Pixel Camera on the Play Store reflects that fact. The app description on the Play Store has also been updated to reflect the progress.

It now reads, “Never miss a moment with the fully redesigned Pixel Camera, and take fantastic photos and videos using features like Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur.” As per the Google Play Store listing, it notes that the update arrived on Oct 9, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro currently operate on version 9.1 and are set to receive an upcoming patch update. The app description also highlights some of the exclusive features of the Pixel 8 Pro, including 50MP High Res and Pro Controls.

Google unveiled the Pixel Camera brand during I/O 2023, alongside several other apps and services designed exclusively for Pixel devices. These offerings, such as Pixel Call Assist, Pixel Speech, and Pixel Safe, are all geared toward enhancing the overall experience for Pixel users.

Pixel Camera is the new Google Camera

Google Camera originally landed on April 16, 2014, and the decade-long app is finally going through a rebranding and it makes sense, as highlighted above. It officially came for Google-made phones, however, some users with the support of developers found ways to crack it down and install it on non-Google phones.
