A YouTube technology content creator Devanshu Dhandhal has gone public with his ordeal of receiving a used and old MacBook Pro inside a sealed Apple box twice from Flipkart. Dhandhal ordered a brand new laptop worth Rs 2.6 lakh, only to receive old and used samples twice. In a social media post, Dhandhal accused Flipkart of enabling fraud by allowing fraudulent sellers on its platform.

The ordeal began when Dhandhal ordered a high-end MacBook Pro from Flipkart worth Rs 2.6 lakh. The initial delivery contained a used model with visible smudges, despite being in a sealed Apple box. Dhandal recorded the unboxing as proof and requested for a replacement.

In a bid to exercise precaution, Dhandhal unboxed the second delivery at an EKart office under CCTV surveillance. Shockingly, the replacement also turned out to be a used MacBook Pro, containing smudges and marks.

Flipkart offered compensation of 10 per cent only

The YouTube creator’s attempts to resolve the issue with Flipkart’s customer support proved frustrating. He revealed that after two days of discussion, he was offered compensation of Rs 13,000, which he rejected. This was then followed by another offer of Rs 18,000, which was also rejected. Finally, a 10 per cent compensation was offered by Flipkart, which he again declined.

“And after all this negotiation, they rejected the return. So I called them again and I asked for 10 per cent compensation as it was a lot of hassle talking to them. Moreover, I was able to clean the marks, but the laptop was not new in the first place,” Dhandhal explained on his social media post.

The creator highlighted that the seller in question has allegedly been scamming customers since 2023, with numerous complaints on platforms like LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube and X. However, Flipkart continues to feature the seller under the ‘Assured’ tag, thereby misleading customers.

“This isn’t a mistake, it’s negligence. You are enabling fraud through your platform,” Dhandhal stated. He urged Flipkart to take action against the seller and launch an investigation.

Flipkart responded to the complaint

Flipkart, however, responded to Dhandhal’s post, stating, “We’d never want you to get anything but what you ordered, and we are extremely sorry about this instance. We want to sort this out for you. Please help us with your order details securely, so we can look into this.”
