It is happening. The first trailer for Rockstar Games’ next Grand Theft Auto instalment, GTA VI, GTA 6, or whatever it turns out to be called, is officially dropping on December 5, 2023, per schedule. The release date announcement follows an earlier announcement that pegged an early December timeline for the trailer release. As is usually the case with these things –especially ones involving Rockstar— no further information has been shared. Even the banner image gives out literally nothing, if anything, it isn’t anything that we haven’t seen before.
But anyhow, looks like we won’t have to wait for too long unless of course Rockstar again leaves us wanting. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t and hopefully the trailer would live up to the hype and satiate long-time fans who’ve been waiting patiently for GTA 6. After all t’s been almost a decade of waiting. The last instalment, GTA V first came out in 2013. Since then, we’ve seen Rockstar do some amazing work, even porting the game for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, also for the Nintendo Switch handheld, making it possibly one of the most widely available games of all time spanning multiple generations and form factors. And it surely helps that the game has done well, giving many big-budget Hollywood flicks a run for money.
Needless to say, Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most hotly anticipated games in history. And Rockstar is well aware of the power it yields and the responsibility it holds. The game was only confirmed to be under “active development” in 2022. Unfortunately for the developer, early footage of the game was leaked and posted online by hackers last year, giving a bit of context to things, though the final game could be vastly different for obvious reasons.
GTA VI is widely reported to be set inside a fictionalised version of Miami, just like GTA: Vice City from 2022. It will also introduce a female protagonist, a first for the franchise. If it’s anything like GTA V, well, prepare to fasten your seat belts one more time.
The trailer drops on December 5, 2023 at 9 AM Eastern Time (ET) which translates to 7:30 PM in Indian Standard Time (IST). It should be available to view on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube and other social media handles.
