In recent news concerning Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook creator and head of Meta, has been handing out free noise-cancelling headphones. Before you let your imagination run wild, the reason for handing out noise-cancelling headphones is to dampen the side effects of all the construction work in Zuckerberg’s properties that have made his neighbours mad.
Zuckerberg has been giving out these gifts to his neighbours in Palo Alto’s Crescent Park locality as part of a peace offering. Reports say that Zuckerberg has engaged in extensive and disruptive construction on the sprawling residential properties for over a decade, which has caused disturbances to his neighbours. With noise-cancelling headphones, Zuckerberg comes in peace.

Sources say that for the past 14 years, Zuckerberg has spent over $110 million acquiring at least 11 homes in the area. These acquisitions have transformed the quiet neighbourhood into a non-stop construction zone, marked by street blockages and frequent debris. These properties also host private parties and advanced surveillance systems – the latter crucial for a high-profile resident like Zuckerberg. Neighbours have described their experience as a ‘relentless” and nearly eight-year-long construction grind.
The extensive projects on Zuckerberg’s properties are said to include massive underground spaces, such as a 7,000-square-foot “bunker” in Palo Alto and a 5,000-square-foot underground space on his Hawaii compound. While some of his acquired homes remain empty, others have been repurposed into guesthouses, gardens, and recreational areas, which also include a pickleball court and a pool with a hydrofloor.
Zuckerberg even ran a private school for his children, which may have skirted local zoning laws.
Meta chief keeps gifting, netizens go wild with trolling
Although gifting noise-cancelling headphones has caught headlines lately, neighbours have occasionally received sparkling wine and Krispy Kreme doughnuts during the loudest phases of construction in the past. It appears that the Meta CEO decided the headphones were an effective way to address the noise issue.
Netizens, however, were quick to come up with memes and jokes.
