Starlink, the satellite internet division under Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is reportedly close to receiving its last regulatory clearance to begin operations in India, as per a report by The Economic Times. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has shared a preliminary agreement with Starlink, which functions as a letter of intent. Once both sides sign the document, Starlink will receive official approval to launch its services in the country, the report added.
Starlink, already active in more than 100 countries, is SpaceX’s groundbreaking satellite broadband initiative designed to revolutionize worldwide internet access. The project seeks to beam fast, reliable internet from orbit, offering a new lifeline for remote and poorly connected regions around the globe.
Starlink has already deployed over 6,000 satellites and plans to scale its constellation to 42,000 by 2027. The system is engineered to deliver fast internet speeds between 50 and 250 Mbps, even in the most remote and hard-to-reach locations. The only requirement for connectivity is an unobstructed view of the sky.
Starlink price in India:
SpaceX’s Starlink is anticipated to launch its Standard Kit in India at an estimated price of Rs 33,000. This package will come equipped with everything required to enable satellite internet access, including the Starlink antenna, a stand, the third-generation Wi-Fi router, necessary Starlink and power cables, and a power adapter. Tailored mainly for home users, the setup is built to handle routine online activities such as video streaming, virtual meetings, and gaming. Unlimited data subscription plans are expected to fall within the Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,200 monthly price range.
Starlink speed:
Starlink is set to roll out its services in India with an initial data capacity ranging between 600 and 700 gigabits per second (Gbps). This level of bandwidth is expected to be sufficient to accommodate thousands of simultaneous users nationwide, ensuring smooth and reliable connectivity.
