Billionaire Elon Musk recently visited the United States-Mexico border and may have or later draw an eye from officials. However, his purpose for visiting the border was to get an “unfiltered” view. As per the shared live stream on X, Elon Musk wrote, “Went to the Eagle Pass border crossing to see what’s really going on.”
He might’ve sparked another political debate on the platform by promoting “citizen journalism”. He posted on Friday on X, “Please encourage more citizen journalism! You can do live video easily from your phone.” He added, “More on-the-ground reporting from regular citizens will change the world.”

More on-the-ground reporting from regular citizens will change the world.
What is Citizen Journalism?
This form of journalism involves the participation of people from all backgrounds, not necessarily professional journalists or those who are in the profession. It came to light after South Korean entrepreneur Oh Yeon-ho said, “Every citizen is a reporter.”
Elon Musk’s open support of Citizen Journalism comes after X user @alx reposted Elon Musk’s post where he notified people of his visit to Eagle Pass, US-Mexico border. The other account reposted, “𝕏 enables everyone to become a citizen journalist, even Elon Musk.” Elon wrote back, “I hope people around the world engage in citizen journalism, so we know what’s truly happening and we get real-time, on-the-ground coverage!”

Elon Musk’s wide and open support for Citizen Journalism is likely to invite people from all across the world to report original stories and may help social media achieve its true potential. Sooner, he also reposted, “X is all you need to be a citizen journalist.” Maybe, Twitter now X could become a safe spot for citizen journalism.
