Elon Musk has changed Twitter starting with its name. Once identified with a blue bird logo, Twitter is now X and even has a new logo. In a recent development on X users now have the ability to block unverified accounts from replying to their posts.
The feature to block replies is seen as an attempt to boost the userbase of Twitter’s Premium X subscription, previously known as Twitter Blue, that grants users a blue checkmark in exchange for a monthly fee of $7.99.
The new feature was announced from X’s official account on the platform. It offers users four options to choose from when selecting who can post reply on their post. The options are: Everyone, Verified accounts, Accounts you follow and Only accounts you mention.

Once you lock your audience to verified accounts, you will not be seeing any replies from unverified accounts (those without blue ticks) on your posts. This feature has received mixed reactions from users.
While some argue that this update may help curb harassment, trolling, and misinformation, it has sparked debate regarding accessibility and the potential impact on free speech. Those in support believe that by limiting replies to verified accounts, whether through payment, phone number, or government ID, X could create a safer for its users.
The introduction of the feature effectively means that non-paying users or unverified X users might find it more challenging to engage in conversations and challenge misinformation. It is feared that this could lead to spread of misinformation on the platform.
