Meta has launched a new tool designed to help creators on Facebook and Instagram protect their original work from being copied or reposted without permission. The feature is called Content Protection and it aims to give creators more control over how their videos are used across Meta’s different apps and services.

What the New Tool does?

Content Protection tool works by automatically scanning both Facebook and Instagram to detect if someone else uploads a video that closely matches a creator’s original video. The system begins scanning after a reel is posted on Instagram and shared to Facebook, or when it is uploaded directly on Facebook.

If the tool finds that the video has been copied, the original creator receives a notification. From there, the creator can choose what action to take. The creator can choose from blocking the copied video, reviewing its performance, allowing it to remain online, or attaching an attribution link so viewers can trace the content back to the rightful owner.

Moreover content creators can also create an “approved list” of accounts that are allowed to reuse their videos, such as collaborators or partner pages.

Why Meta Is Rolling Out This Feature?

Recently the short-form videos like reels have become the most engaging content viewed by users. Therefore creators often face the issue of others reposting their content without credit. Meta however with this new tool says its meant to support authenticity and help ensure that creators receive recognition for the effort they put into producing original videos.

The company has already been working to reduce impersonation accounts and spam, and this tool adds another layer of protection to encourage safe and fair content sharing across its platforms.

Important Limitations to Know

The new feature comes with a few restrictions. It currently works only if reels are available on Facebook, so creators who post only on Instagram without sharing may not receive match alerts. Meta is also rolling out the tool first on mobile devices, with a desktop version expected later.

Additionally, blocking a copied video does not automatically punish the account that posted it. This is intended to prevent misuse of the tool and maintain a balanced environment for both creators and viewers.

Boost for Today’s Digital Creators

For anyone producing reels and short videos, Content Protection feature offers added protection. It allows creators to monitor how their work is being reused, maintain proper credit, and make informed decisions about acceptable use.

By introducing this feature, Meta signals its commitment to supporting the creator community especially at a time when originality and recognition play major roles in online growth.
