Waiting for Nothing Phone 3? You have some more waiting to do as Carl Pei—the CEO of Nothing—just announced they’re still “cooking” it. It will show up in its own time but as and when it does, “it’ll be worth it,” Pei teased on X, the platform previously called Twitter. The CEO of the London upstart that wants to be the Apple of Android wants you—the fan and enthusiast—to have some Phone 3a instead, which is its next confirmed product launch set for March 4, 2025.

It isn’t surprising that Nothing and its CEO have kicked-off the hype train for the Nothing Phone 3a series, what’s pleasantly surprising is that they’re as transparent about what’s coming next, or after. The Phone 3 is hugely anticipated. Even more so because Nothing chose to hold off the launch last year something great and possibly, different from what’s already there in the market today. AI is a big focus but so is the general software, which Nothing takes great pride in and most users, love and appreciate. Nothing hasn’t done anything remarkable with the camera yet, but it is putting a lot of effort and resources on it and probably with Phone 3, it might just pull a rabbit out of its hat.

“This year will mark the launch of our flagship Nothing Phone 3. It will introduce breakthrough innovations in user interface, taking our first step toward our Al-powered platform,” Pei said in an email to his team that later leaked online. “We’re aiming at redefining the user experience of personal computing devices – creating technology that knows you, makes your life easier, and is present where you are. Technology that enables us to achieve our greatest creative potential.”

His post on X only reiterates this further and with more confidence: “I also see all the questions asking for Phone 3 — we’re still cooking. We took our time, but I think it’ll be worth it.”

In a clever marketing theatrics, Nothing created a top-end flagship phone—that a power user like YouTuber Marques ‘MKBHD’ Brownlee—would use and chalked up the BOM or bill of materials cost in a video posted online. The phone was of course conceptual, but the video did provide a rough estimate on how much a flagship phone would cost to make from the company, excluding other technicalities like R&D, marketing, and profits. Maybe it was a sign that Phone 3 could be more expensive, or Nothing might choose to have a few powerful parts in order to bring the cost down while still offering the necessary bells and whistles of a flagship. Either way, it would be interesting to see how things pan out.

In the meanwhile, Nothing is set to launch the Phone 3a “series” on March 4. Wording suggests more than one smartphone may be in the offing. The series is launching simultaneously in India as global markets.
