After bringing security to your smartphones and laptops, the tech giant aims to bring a smart safety doorbell lock. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a Face Id protected camera for your doorbell.
Apple seems to be working on a new smart doorbell camera which will use Face ID to unlock your door. This was revealed by Gurman in his weekly newsletter ‘Power On.’ Let’s have a detailed look at how your home security is gonna change with the upcoming product.
Face ID to unlock your doors
The smart doorbell is expected to function just like the Face ID on your iPhones. This means it will unlock the door automatically when it recognises you or other residents. Also, it is expected to feature the Secure Enclave chip, just as the other Apple devices. These chips process and store biometric data independently from the main hardware. This eventually ensures that you get better privacy.
Other speculations suggest that the doorbell could also be compatible with existing third-party HomeKit smart locks. This can offer flexibility for Apple users who already own the HomeKit ecosystem. If this is not the case, then Apple could also partner with a smart lock manufacturer to deliver a compiled safety system at launch.
The device could also use Apple’s in-house “Proxima” chip.Notably, this chip is a hybrid Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology. This technology has the potential to power the next-generation Apple TV and HomePod Mini products. The product is expected to come by the late 2025. However, no official announcements have been made yet.
Other updates
Apart from the doorbell, the Cupertino-based tech is also working on a series of innovative smart home products. These could include a new smart home hub with a 6-inch display. This product is designed for controlling devices, video playback and FaceTime calls, among others.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing a security camera to complement the hub. This could further add on more privacy-focused features into its product lineup.
