Major tech job layoffs from top firms in 2025

Intel

Semiconductor giant Intel has announced plans to eliminate over 500 positions in its Oregon office. Earlier this year, Intel also laid off 107 employees in California. The company anticipates an even larger impact, with expectations to cut a fresh round of 5,500 jobs. The layoffs are affecting software engineers and senior staff. Intel says that it wants to streamline its workforce and adapt to evolving market demands.

Amazon

Amazon has also undertaken a significant restructuring. After laying off hundreds of workers from AWS, there are whispers of a further 10% staff reduction. This includes a notable risk to 25% of Principal-Level roles, indicating a major shift in the company’s high-level workforce. While specific numbers may vary, the e-commerce and cloud computing giant has announced that more roles could be cut off as Amazon continue to embed AI into more of its operations.

Microsoft

Microsoft has laid off approximately 9,100 staff in a major layoff spree, specifically targeting the Xbox division. However, the buck doesn’t stop there. As the tech giant is looking to further integrate AI into more of its operations, more job layoffs are expected in the coming months. That said, Microsoft continues to hire new talent across the globe for roles that require people to work with AI and make for more streamlined automated systems.

Google

Google is reportedly laying off talent from its smart TV division, thereby impacting Google TV and Android TV. The company is reducing its 300-member team by 25% and cutting funding by 10%. The layoffs aim to streamline operations and reallocate resources as Google invests more in AI projects.

Crowdstrike

CrowdStrike is also announcing the layoff of 5% of its global workforce, affecting approximately 500 employees. According to the company’s 8-K filing, these firings are part of “a strategic plan to evolve its operations to yield greater efficiencies.” CrowdStrike says that it aims to scale its business to achieve its goal of $10 billion in Annual Recurring Revenue by the end of the year.
