Following into the footsteps of Netflix, now Disney+ has announced plans to crack down on password sharing. The video streaming app is set to implement account usage analysis in an effort to curb password sharing. The company announced the change in an email to subscribers in Canada, where the new policy will be rolled out first on November 1.
“We’re implementing restrictions on your ability to share your account or login credentials outside of your household,” the email read. “You may not share your subscription outside of your household.”

Disney+ has not yet released details on how exactly it will enforce the new policy but it is likely that it will ask users to verify their primary location and the devices that they mainly use to access their account. If a device is found to be logging in from outside of the user’s household, Disney+ may send a one-time code to the primary device that must be entered to continue streaming.
Password sharing has been a rising menace amongst OTT app subscribers. Netflix which is one of the leading streaming companies has also taken steps to crack down on it. Disney+ is now the latest streaming service to join the bandwagon.
