As is the norm, Apple phases out certain older products to make space for the new ones. With the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max expected to barge in as the brand new iPhones from Apple, certain older iPhone models, which have been on sale for years, are expected to be phased out.
Soon after the ‘Awe dropping’ hardware launch event on September 9, Apple is expected to update its website and make changes to the product lines. With new Apple Watch and AirPods Pro models expected to launch this year, you have a fair idea of which sections are likely to see reductions in their price tag.
iPhone omission: Which models will be axed?
Considering how two-year old iPhones are usually scrapped with every new model launch, it seems that the new iPhone 17 series will mark the end of life for 2023’s iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have been on sale even after the iPhone 16 series came out last year. With the iPhone 16e joining the family as the cheapest iPhone offering, the iPhone 15 ended up being more affordable choice for those who wanted rich features without sacrificing on core luxuries.
With the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will co-exist with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Along with the iPhone 15 series, Apple will also discontinue the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, making way for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Old Apple Watches, AirPods could be discontinued too
The changes aren’t limited to just iPhones. Apple is also expected to overhaul its wearable offerings. The current-generation Apple Watch Series 10, Watch Ultra 2, and Watch SE 2 are all anticipated to be discontinued this year. Their replacements are rumoured to be the new Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, and a new Watch SE model. When it comes to audio, the launch of the AirPods Pro 3 is highly anticipated.
