The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a revised set of valid documents for Aadhaar registration and modifications applicable for the assessment year 2025–26. One of the key regulations surrounding Aadhaar is that every individual is permitted to hold only a single Aadhaar number. In cases where a person has obtained multiple Aadhaar IDs—possibly due to system glitches or repeated applications—only the first Aadhaar generated with biometric details will remain active and valid.

Additionally, the list of acceptable documents for Aadhaar services has been revised as per the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2025. The updated guidelines now clearly specify the types of documents that can be used to verify identity, address, date of birth, and familial relationships.

Acceptable Documents for Verification:

Proof of Identity:
Valid identity documents include a PAN card, voter ID, driving licence, or any government-issued photo identification.

Proof of Address:
Acceptable address documents are utility bills, bank passbooks, ration cards, or official documents from government housing schemes.

Proof of Date of Birth:
Documents such as a birth certificate, passport, or SSLC certificate can be used to verify date of birth.

Proof of Relationship:
To establish family relationships, documents like a PDS (Public Distribution System) card, MGNREGA job card, or birth certificates listing parents’ names are accepted.
