Canadian Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, known by his stage name Shubh, who was supposed to perform in Mumbai from September 23-25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event aboard the Cordelia Cruise, is at the centre of a storm.
What is the controversy all about?
Shubh had shared a distorted map of India on his Instagram story and later deleted it after facing the backlash. The map omitted the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and the Northeastern states. Alongside the image, he wrote “Pray for Punjab,” which sparked immediate criticism. He later deleted the map, replacing it with a message that only read “Pray for Punjab” without any picture.
The political parties opposed his move, alleging his support for Khalistan.
Shubh’s statement
In a statement posted on his Instagram account, Shubhneet Singh expressed deep disappointment at the cancellation of his India tour. He mentioned that he had been diligently preparing for this tour for the past two months and was eagerly looking forward to performing in India.
Taking to his page on Instagram, the rapper posted, “As a young rapper-singer hailing from Punjab, it was my life’s dream to put my music on an international dais. But the recent happenings have tumbled my hard work and progress, and I wanted to say a few words to express my dismay and sorrow.”
