There’s a new single malt in town from the house of Piccadily Agro Industries. They have launched their latest premium offering, the Indri Agneya, a lightly peated single malt whisky that promises to redefine Indian whisky craftsmanship.
About Indri Agneya
Crafted in the village of Indri in Haryana, Indri Agneya marks a new chapter in the brand’s journey. Speaking about the launch, Surrinder Kumar, Master Blender at Piccadily Agro Industries, said, “With Indri Agneya, we set out to push boundaries. We wanted to explore the untapped space between the familiar and the unexpected. Agneya introduces a new conversation, a whisky that hints at smoke and spice, while still retaining the warmth and complexity that defines Indri’s house style. We’re incredibly proud of what this represents for the Indri portfolio and for India’s place on the global whisky map.”
The name Agneya comes from Sanskrit and translates to ‘belonging to fire’. The whisky undergoes maturation in a combination of Sherry and Bourbon casks, a technique that adds layers of richness and depth while balancing smoke, malt sweetness, and spice.
Unlike traditional whiskies which are heavily peated, particularly those from Scotland’s Islay region, Indri Agneya is designed to offer an approachable introduction to peat. The spirit is distilled using indigenous six-row barley, gently kilned over peat smoke to deliver a “whisper of smoke that enhances rather than dominates.” This creates a well-rounded profile with nutty aromas and ripe fruit on the nose, a soft, velvety mouthfeel, and a lingering smoky finish.
The peated profile sets Indri Agneya apart from Indri’s earlier flagship release, Indri-Trini, which focused more on fruit-forward and spice-driven notes. According to the company, Agneya’s launch signals a conscious step toward broadening the spectrum of Indian single malts with innovation and finesse at its core.
As Kumar emphasised, the whisky is “more than just a product”. This speaks about Piccadily’s vision to position India as a serious contender in the global premium whisky platform. The brand aims to highlight terroir-driven craftsmanship, showing India’s growing ability to produce world-class whiskies that can match up to established international labels.
