Narendra Modi Birthday: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 75 today and over the years, he hasn’t just been seen as a political leader but also as someone whose lifestyle choices inspire millions of Indians. While for most people, turning 75 would be a time to slow down, for Modi, birthdays have always been less about personal celebration and more about continuing his routine of discipline and service.
Whether it’s his long working hours, his ability to keep up with an intense travel schedule, or his energy on stage, Modi’s habits often leave people curious. How does a man leading one of the busiest nations in the world still look fit, energetic, and focused at 75? Well, the answer lies in his daily routine, his diet, and his unique approach to fasting.
Narendra Modi sleeps just 3.5 hours a night
Union Minister L. Murugan recently revealed to ANI that PM Modi barely sleeps for 3.5 hours every night. What is even more surprising is that he doesn’t eat after 6 pm. “Everyone was surprised and happy at the same time. PM Modi talked about his daily routine, his exercise, his foreign trips, even about visiting Karachi. We got to spend 45 minutes with him. He said he sleeps for just 3.5 hours and does not eat after 6 pm,” Murugan shared with ANI.
Most people can’t imagine functioning on such little sleep, but Modi seems to have adapted his body and mind to it. His day usually begins around 4 am and often runs until midnight, packed with meetings, public events, and decision-making. And this schedule has been keeping him active throughout the years.
Walks, yoga, and meditation keeps him grounded
According to Sudesh Verma, author of Narendra Modi: The Gamechanger, Modi has been consistent with his fitness routine since his Gujarat days. Every morning begins with a walk, followed by yoga and surya namaskar. Meditation is something PM Modi swears by and is an important part of his daily schedule. He has even shared in interviews that meditation and yoga helps him stay calm and focused no matter how stressful the day gets.
What does Narendra Modi eat in a day to keep him fit?
When it comes to food, Modi keeps it simple and sattvic. As per Hindustant Times, his mornings often start with ginger tea, and his breakfast is usually light which includes boiled or roasted food. He is known to be a ‘modest eater’ who enjoys dishes like khichdi, kadhi, upma, and khakra, most of which are prepared by his personal cook.
‘Fasting is a way to cultivate discipline:’ Narendra Modi
One of the most fascinating parts of Modi’s lifestyle is his fasting routine. In his recent conversation with Lex Fridman on his popular podcast, Modi explained how fasting has shaped his discipline over the years.
“Fasting is a way to cultivate discipline,” he said. “During fasting, the senses are so sensitive and sharp that you can even smell water. Fasting accelerates the body’s thinking process. Many think fasting is giving up food. Fasting is actually a scientific process,” he further explains.
He added that fasting doesn’t make him sluggish or weak. “I work just as much as usual. Sometimes, I even work more,” Modi told Fridman. For him, fasting is both devotion and discipline.
Narendra Modi still follows age-old fasting rituals
Modi also shared in the podcast with Fridman that he follows Chaturmas, an age-old tradition during the monsoon season when digestion is naturally slower. “For about four to four and a half months, I eat only once in 24 hours,” he revealed.
Then there’s Navratri, when he takes his fasting to another level by completely abstaining from food and surviving only on hot water. During Chaitra Navratri, which comes in March or April, he follows a unique method: he picks one fruit and eats only that, once a day, for all nine days.
“So if I choose papaya, I’ll eat only papaya, nothing else, for nine days,” he explained.
These aren’t just recent habits. Modi says he has been following such fasting traditions for more than 50 years, making them a deep part of his lifestyle.
Why people look up to PM Modi?
At 75, Narendra Modi continues to be one of the busiest world leaders, and his personal discipline is often seen as the secret behind his energy. His lifestyle sends out a simple message that you don’t need to follow any fancy gym routine or follow an intense diet to stay healthy. All you need is consistency, discipline, and balance.
For his supporters, this is truly inspiring as they see in him not just a politician but a man who practices what he preaches which includes simplicity, self-control, and dedication.
At 75, Modi remains an example of how a simple, well-disciplined lifestyle can help maintain energy and focus even in the toughest of roles.
