Sara Ali Khan, who celebrates her 30th birthday today, has made it to the A-lister gang of the current generation of Bollywood. For her last film, Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino, Sara took home a paycheck of Rs 3 crore. But even with a net worth in crores, Sara’s real-life approach to money is far from extravagant. The star previously revealed that she relates the most to the middle-class character she played in the 2023 romantic comedy, especially when it comes to spending wisely.

Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025, Sara candidly spoke about her frugal habits, like avoiding international roaming during trips abroad and also not letting her mother, Amrita Singh, make costly purchases. “I am aware and mindful about where I spend my money. I don’t enjoy spending money frivolously. But yes, of course, I think a little bit of splurging, celebrating, if you want to, why not?” she remarked.
Travel, she admitted, is where most of her savings go. “Since I like to travel, I save up for that. That’s where I’d rather put my money. I don’t have a Hermès bag; my mom has one and I borrow it. I seek utility in the things I buy. I aspire to own a Chanel bag one day, but if you are comfortable in Zara, that’s great too,” she said.
The actor revealed that it is her mother Amrita Singh who oversees her financial decisions entirely. “I have learnt that you should invest small amounts in different sectors. Of course, one is advised. My mom handles my money entirely. Even my GPay account is linked to her… The OTPs come on her phone,” she said, laughing. When told this sounded like pocket money, she responded, “Pocket money? I can’t even book a ticket without the OTP.”
She shared that her investments include real estate, stocks, and gold bonds, all under her mother’s supervision.
Her co-star Vicky Kaushal also recounted an incident when they came on The Kapil Sharma Show. He said, “She was scolding Amrita ma’am. I asked what happened and she said, ‘Mummy ko akal hi nahi hai; 1600 rupaiye ka toliya le aayi hai.’ She was really going at her,” he laughed. Sara playfully confirmed, saying, “Arre, 1600 rupaiye ka toliya kaun kharidta hai? Vanity van mein muft ke 2-3 toliye taang ke rakhte hai, unhi me se koi use kar lo.”

On the work front, Sara was last seen in Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino, which released on July 4. The ensemble cast includes Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neena Gupta, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aditya Roy Kapur.
