As astrology apps become all the rage, rising phenomenally in recent  years, the most common concerns presented by users are marriage and relationships, closely followed by questions on career and finance.

Based on a report by Digittrix Infotech, an Indian app development company, from 2024 to 2025, astrology app usage has grown by 35% in India. The report also stated that 70% of users prefer astrology apps for quick daily horoscopes, as these apps provide fast and personalised insights, rather than vague generalisations.

Love, Marriage and Career Drive Demand

Launched in 2017, Astrotalk claims to connect 7 crore users with over 20,000 verified professionals, offering services like tarot and palm reading as well. According to founder and CEO Puneet Gupta, the maximum number of queries that come to the app are on marriage  and relationships, and in the age group of 25-35 years. “About 65% of our queries per day are on marriage and relationships,” he shared, adding that queries related to finance and career closely followed relationship questions. “Around 1,60,000 conversations (chat, call) happen every day. We know from tagging that 65% of the customers have problems related to marriage,” he added.

About 27% of Astrotalk users are based abroad, majorly in the United States, a number the company aims to increase to 40-45% in a year.

AI Predictions Gain Ground

Vikram Labhe, CEO and founder of Melooha, another astrological app, shared: “The highest number of paying and non-paying users come to Melooha for predictions on relationships pre and post-marriage.” However, he clarified that Melooha does not provide astrologers but predictions put out by an AI-trained system based on the name, age, date and place of birth of the user. The app also saves the interactions on the user profile, so they can revisit to check the accuracy of the prediction made by Melooha and choose further interactions on the platform.

Melooha has been around for less than a year following a Shark Tank pitch which did not bring them funding, but certainly gave the app visibility. Since its launch in June of 2024, Melooha has garnered over 10 lakh users in a matter of 10  months, Labhe said.

Shefali Anurag, co-founder of Coto, another astrology and wellness streaming app echoes the same experience. “Our primary target audience consists of people aged 25-45, with a strong concentration between 28 and 35. This group includes professionals, young families navigating key life transitions, and young individuals managing relationship challenges, as well as more mature users also dealing with relationship issues.” She added: “A significant percentage of users visit Coto to discuss relationships and love, our largest topic category. It includes conversations about break-ups, marriage, divorce, and marital dynamics challenges.” She said both men and women aged 25 to 45 engage heavily in these topics, often tied to different stages of their relationships.

Both online consulting as well as AI-based astrology apps are finding a heavy audience across the globe, racking up both downloads and investments, becoming a new essential on mobile phones.

Astrotalk has so far touched an annual revenue of Rs 1,650 crore, and aims to hit Rs 2,000 crore by FY2026. The app is expanding too—the Astrotalk Store was launched last year, offering spiritual products like gemstones, rudrakshas, yantras, and puja items. The vertical is steadily moving toward a Rs 100-crore annual returning revenue.

Gupta credits this rise in demand for astro apps to the fact that most people in today’s day and age seek guidance. With the highest number of Indian users from metro cities of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, he says the industry is only expected to grow further. As of 2025, Astrotalk has crossed 5 million downloads, and in 2024, recorded an average revenue of nearly Rs 22,000 per minute. The average amount of time spent by a user on Astrotalk for the first consultation is about 12 minutes, costing Rs 200-250.

Anurag of Coto shared, “We have close to 3 million downloads globally and over 2 million consultation minutes served since we launched live consultations. Additionally, we are growing at a 45-50% rate month-on-month.”

Breaking down their user base, Anurag said, “We see strong adoption from tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India. Northern regions, including Delhi-NCR and Punjab, show high engagement. Other leading cities include Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata.” She added that a growing audience has been observed “from cities with large Indian diasporas, such as Ottawa, Ontario, and Calgary in Canada, and London in the UK. In the US, we see traction in California and Washington, though Texas also has a large Indian audience.”

Melooha has users in over 175 countries, with 90% of them based in India. In India, founder Labhe said, 70% of the users come from tier 1 and 2 cities. However, Labhe expects users from tier 3 and 4 cities to rise soon, with the recent launch of its Hindi app.

Astroyogi, a platform around since 2001, launched an app in 2016, calling it a ‘defining moment’ of their growth journey, as per founder and CEO Aditya Kapoor. “This shift allowed us to expand our digital footprint and laid the groundwork for a scalable, multilingual platform that has over 15 million installs globally with more than 5,000 verified professionals. Over the past six years, the platform has recorded a compound annual growth rate of 75%. Despite being entirely bootstrapped, we have also maintained a healthy profitability through all these years,” added Kapoor.

As per a Digittrix study, 80% satisfaction rate is reported by users utilising AI-powered astrology apps, noting improved accuracy and relevance in their predictions.

According to an analysis by Redseer Strategy Consultants, India’s total astrology market is estimated to be worth more than $7 billion, and the digital segment alone is expected to grow ten-fold by March 2030.

“Astrology is on the brink of the perception change that yoga went through a few years ago,” said Labhe, adding, “The markets for astrology, Bollywood, cricket and devotion have always been significant in India. Astrology is now picking up in a more organised way.” Apps like Melooha, which operate on AI predictions, also have their own set of advantages. “Users trust that the prediction is made with no human bias, and they can get advice instantaneously, even in the middle of the night.”
