This edition of the Kumbh, is being held after 12 years and is said to align with rare celestial configurations which is occurring after 144 years. Maha Kumbh 2025: What’s happening in Maha Kumbh Nagar?
Prayagraj has transformed into Maha Kumbh Nagar, a sprawling temporary city spanning 10,000 acres and accommodating up to 1 crore people at a time. For the first time, this Kumbh integrates technology extensively, earning it the nickname “Digi-Kumbh.” Features include AI-powered security systems, a digital tourist map to locate facilities like toilets, and live social media monitoring for security purposes.
More than 45,000 police personnel and 55 police stations are in place to ensure safety. Additionally, 30 pontoon bridges and grand entry gates with thematic designs enhance the festival’s accessibility and grandeur.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said the event is not just a spiritual gathering but also a display of unity, modern infrastructure, and cultural pride. The walls of Prayagraj have been adorned with Hindu motifs, and the city’s roads feature religious symbols like kalash and Surya Namaskaar poses.
The Maha Kumbh marks the first major event since the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya in 2024, adding a layer of historic significance. Lakhs of devotees, ranging from children to the elderly, have already taken their holy dip, with crowds peaking on Paush Purnima.
Thirteen Akharas representing various sects have set up colorful camps, with themed gates serving as visual landmarks and adding to the festive charm. Meanwhile, devotees have taken to social media, sharing their experiences and offering virtual darshan to family members.
