Early life
Born on August 15 1983, in Chkalovsk, Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic, Fridman grew up in Moscow. At the age of 11, his family moved to Chicago from Russia, after the Soviet Union collapsed. He went to Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois and pursued his B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science at Drexel University. He also has a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at Drexel.

Fridman’s PhD dissertation was on the topic – Learning of Identity from Behavioral Biometrics for Active Authentication, for which he was hired by Google to continue the work. But six months in, he left his job at Google and joined MIT’s AgeLab to work on psychology and big-data analytics to understand driver behaviour.
Originally titled The Artificial Intelligence Podcast, it began in 2018. The name was later changed to The Lex Fridman Podcast in 2020. In 2024, this channel had reached 3.6 million subscribers.
