Lauren Sánchez Bezos, wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, made a style statement at Balenciaga’s highly anticipated Paris showcase. However, it was her accessory that made headlines around the world – a couture clutch that looked like a coffee cup, Balenciaga’s famous 9 AM Clutch.
Designed to resemble a standard takeaway coffee cup, the clutch was first introduced in 2022 as a commentary on consumerism and disposable culture. The piece made its runway debut during the label’s Fall 2024 show in Los Angeles. But while it mimics the look of a humble paper cup, the bag is anything but ordinary. Priced at USD 5,750 (approximately Rs 4,93,672), the bag is made of smooth calfskin leather, finished with a polished brass lid and a functional clasp.

According to WWD, the design exemplifies Balenciaga’s ongoing exploration of satire and luxury, particularly through mundane objects reimagined as high fashion.
Sánchez, who previously carried the same bag during her wedding preparations in April, reintroduced it at the Paris event in a personalised version featuring her name printed along the side. She completed the look with a structured black coat dress and the house’s iconic Knife Pumps.
Balenciaga’s flair for unexpected accessories is well-documented. The brand’s Spring 2024 campaign featured designer renditions of potato chip bags, a cheeky follow-up to their earlier Lay’s collaboration. The luxury snack-themed handbags were listed at USD 1,890 and came in bold, glossy hues of red and blue.
Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos got married in a high-profile wedding function in Venice on June 27. For her wedding, the bride wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown inspired by Sophia Loren’s iconic look from the 1958 film Houseboat.
