Baramulla witnessed a historic cultural spectacle as 10,000 young women came together to perform the Largest Kashmiri Folk Dance ever at the “Kashur Riwaaj” festival, coinciding with India’s 78th Independence Day. Organized by the Dagger Division of Chinar Corps in partnership with the Baramulla District Administration and the Indrani Balan Foundation, the event served as a vibrant tribute to Kashmir’s cultural richness. Held at Prof. Showkat Ali Indoor Stadium, the festival showcased traditional dances, music, calligraphy, and various cultural activities.

The smooth execution of the festival was ensured by the Baramulla District Administration, under the leadership of Shri Minga Sherpa, DC, with support from senior officials of the J&K Cultural Department, police, and local NGOs. The event was graced by esteemed guests including Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, Corps Commander of Chinar Corps, and Maj. Gen. Rajesh Sethi, GOC of Dagger Division, who applauded the participants for their cultural fervor.

The Indrani Balan Foundation, led by Shri Punit and Smt. Janhavi Balan, played a pivotal role in supporting the initiative, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting Kashmir’s artistic heritage. “This event exemplifies the synergy between civil, military, and community efforts in nurturing cultural pride,” remarked a spokesperson from the foundation.

The festival also featured notable local artists like Ishfaq Hamid Bhatt, a young Rubab prodigy honored with the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar 2024, and Naseer Ahmed Mir, a distinguished Santoor player. Their performances underscored Kashmir’s musical richness and contributed to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
