The Miss Universe 2025 pageant has just concluded and there is a new reigning titleholder. Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch has won the crown at the 74th edition of the pageant which was held in Thailand. She beat out over a 100 other contestants and competitors from Thailand, Venezuela, Cote d’Ivoire and the Philippines in the final round to bag the title. Her win marks the fourth time that Mexico has taken home the iconic win.

However, her win comes amid a gaggle of controversy that plagued the competition through its run. Bosch even walked out of the pageant after being subjected to inappropriate behaviour by the organizing officials. So her win is even sweeter and infinitely more precious to behold. A live-streamed video caught the ugly chain of events which led Fatima Bosch to walk out of the competition in distress. There was a major confrontation during a pre-event meeting between Bosch and the Miss Universe Thailand National Director Nawat Itsaragrisil when the incumbent Miss Mexico refused to promote Thailand across her social media platforms.
Despite trying to explain her stance, the situation rapidly escalated and she walked out after the Director called her ‘a dumbhead’ and harshly criticised her for her insufficient promotion of the host country. The incident prompted other contestants to also walk out in solidarity as security had been called to forcibly remove Borsch from the venue.
The unpleasant incident quickly made its rounds online and netizens were outraged on Bosch’s behalf. The public humiliation alongside the harsh criticism rallied the masses to her side with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also denouncing the event as “a humiliating affront to dignity and respect,” as per Economic Times.

Another controversial incident occurred when two judges bowed out of the event just days before the crowning with composer Omar Harfouch alleging that the competition was rigged and contestants had been secretly pre-selected behind the scenes.
