Saif Ali Khan has long been associated with the iconic Pataudi Palace, his sprawling ancestral estate valued at an estimated Rs 1,200 crore. While Saif reclaimed full ownership of the property a few years ago, his sister Soha Ali Khan shared an interesting revelation as to what her share is in the massive palace.
Soha Ali Khan’s share in Pataudi Palace
In a recent interaction with Zoom, Soha shared that her personal share in the grand estate is rather modest compared to her brother’s. “I have what was the generator room. But luckily, for a short period of time, there was a hotel that was managing the Pataudi Palace. My parents moved into the generator room, converted it into what, I think, is actually a very nice property, and now that’s mine,” the actress revealed.
The Pataudi Palace, once leased to a hotel chain by their father, the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has since been restored to Saif’s ownership. Unlike her brother, Soha clarified that she never sought a larger share of the ancestral wealth.
When asked if she ever questioned why Saif inherited more, Soha said, “The things that were relevant to my life were not crowns or thrones. It was just the things that I wanted to do, and never was I told that you want to do this.”
Opening up further about her upbringing, Soha spoke about the progressive values instilled by her parents. “Never was there an expectation that the son would drink milk first and daughters would serve them food before eating themselves. I was never told not to play outside because you will become dark or that girls should behave like this, wear clothes like this. None of that,” she revealed.
She also credited her father’s liberal mindset despite his aristocratic background. “Even though my father was from an aristocratic Muslim background, he was a forward thinker and very progressive. I think all of that helped me to just have that confidence, to believe that anything I wanted to do was possible. That I should just work hard at it. There were no systemic barriers. There was nothing preventing me from thinking,” she explained.
Further speaking about her inheritance, Soha added, “I was aware of the law of primogeniture; I am aware of Muslim law. I am aware now that there’s a lot of things whereby you can circumvent that as well. You can leave a will and say that this is what I want to go to my children in equal.”
Saif Ali Khan and Pataudi Palace
Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan continues to manage the historic property and is reportedly transforming part of the palace into an archive to commemorate the achievements of his ancestors. While Saif has full ownership of Pataudi Palace, his sisters Saba and Soha do not share legal rights to the estate. This is a privilege he holds as the ‘nawab’ of Pataudi.
