The arrival of football legend David Beckham in India has caused significant excitement to erupt within sporting circles and otherwise in the country. The former football player who is currently visiting India for a second time, is here in his capacity as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to promote equal opportunities, inclusion and empowerment for every child.
The sporting superstar received the warmest of welcomes as he arrived in Mumbai. He was given a traditional greeting in the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel where he was adorned with a flower garland and tika, accompanied by a simple aarti ceremony. He took to Instagram to share a few highlights throughout the day and one video which saw him participate in a quirky ‘lesson’ caught the attention of fans.
Dal ki chaat lessons, UNICEF commitments and a packed itinerary
David Beckham posted a photo dump chronicling his exciting experiences in Mumbai and among them was a video where he attempted to make the Indian snack Dal ki chaat as he was being guided along the steps by someone who clearly knew what to do.
“So touched by everyone’s kindness… Thank you for my traditional welcome and Dal Ki Chaat lessons 🍲 Making some beautiful memories in Mumbai 💙🧡,” he captioned his post. The carousel also contained other pictures including a scenic snap of the waterfront, and a group picture presumably with the staff of the Taj Mahal hotel where he is currently staying.

He has been taking a hands-on approach to his trip – interacting with youngsters and playing football with them. He also visited the Education Above All foundation which aims to provide ‘quality education and employment opportunities.’

David’s recent posts on Instagram have been a delight to see as he took followers on a tour around Mumbai. He was seen playing the iconic sport with local children and even shared the sweet memory on Instagram with the caption:
“Loved being back on the pitch with these incredible kids and @unicef in Mumbai….all over the world football always puts a smile on children’s faces. Grateful for the warm welcome 🇮🇳 @unicefindia”
