Ramlila in Delhi 2025: Old Delhi hosts the most famous Ramlilas of all time. Chronicled at the helm of Chandni Chowk, it is brought to the residents of Delhi by the prominent organisers of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee and the Shri Dharmic Leela Committee. Several celebrities, politicians, and public figures often attend the celebrations and several thousand people attend the festivities every night. Coming to an end on Dussehra, the tradition of burning the Ravan effigy marks the final day of the Ramlila. From actors across India, Ramlilas have brought together centuries of traditions and given them a stage, enjoyed by families from all backgrounds.

But gone are those days when people prefer lining up in huge crowds in the humid months of October. And if you want to avoid being stuck hours in traffic, check out these forgotten Ramlilas that used to light up Delhi. Some old and some news, this list is set to sort your Dussehra 2025 plans on October 2.

Broadway Ramlila

Inaugurated by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta this year, the Broadway Ramlila takes place at Netaji Subhash Place, Pitampura. This year, it carries the theme ‘Charitron Ka Adhyayan” or “A Study of Characters,” takes audiences beyond the well-known story into the rich psychological and philosophical depths of the Ramayana’s iconic figures. This dynamic three hour spectacle features a 3D stage design, 20 original soundtracks created by artists like Udit Narayan and Kailash Kher themselves. It blends technology with the mythological mystery of the Ramayan and gives it a 21st century spin, since its inception in 2015.

Eco-friendly Ramlila

This environment-friendly Ramlila is hosted in Ashok Vihar and features all performers and cast from local communities. With huge emphasis on folk songs, this regional rendition has a very intimate setting and allows the attendees to indulge in nightly bhajans. Interestingly, this Ramlila production boasts of using only biodegradable materials and plastic-free equipment. Focussed on devotion, this hyper-local Ramlila is a mix of both neighbourhood experience and minimal spectacle.

Haryanvi Ramlila

Scripted entirely in the Haryanvi dialect, the Rathi Samaj Sanskritik Club Ramlila is hosted in Sector 7, Rohini. It focuses on storytelling and folk humours to evoke nostalgia. In fact, there is an after-show langar (open meal) that feeds everyone for free. The regional flavour not only adds a sense of togetherness but also promotes community building.

Senior-citizen Ramlila

This iconic Ramlila has existed for nearly 50 years. Conducted every year in Old Rajinder Nagar, the Ramlila has several actors who are senior citizens. Acting with valour in heritage costumes and hand-painted backdrops, this Ramlila also has stalls which display the local handicrafts on display. This unique festivity celebrates Delhi’s elderly, gives them voluntary employment, and supports traditional crafts.

Awadhi Ramlila

Scripted entirely in the local dialect of Awadhi, Madhav Park near Jhandewalan hosts this deeply devotional depiction of the Ramayan. With live table and harmonium renditions, these engaging and classical performances feature burning of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad with local fanfare.

Dandiya Raas Ramlila

Located in south-west Delhi, this Ramlila also hosts a special garba and dandiya night after the Ramayan performance. Local students from nearby schools and institutes take up the roles and give a unique Mumbai-inspired experience. This musical-led evening will have you swaying with excitement all night.

Women-only Green Dussehra Ramlila

This women-led performance is often sought after by audiences for its iconic ‘Sita-haran’ episode from the Ramayan. Featuring a majority of women crew, it also has a fully synchronised light and sound show and organic effigy burning, keeping in mind Delhi’s poor air quality.
