Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 2: Kamal Haasan‘s much awaited crime-drama Thug Life hit the big screens of June 5. Despite a missing release in Karnataka, attributing to a Kannada controversy, the Thug Life Box Office Opening Day Collections was Rs 3 crore shy of the Rs 20 crore mark. Gathering large audiences in Tamil, the occupancy rates were relatively higher on its opening day, a little above 50% in morning shows. The evening shows had an even higher audience at 62% in the same. With the highest audience reported in Pondicherry, the state was screening across 57 screens on its opening day. However, Chennai with the highest number of shows, over 1000, came in second for the occupancy rates. It also expressed popularity across Trichy, Madurai and Salem.

North India saw the overall occupancy rates lower than 10% with less than 50% screens showing Thug Life. However, on Day 2, the film saw a significant decline in Tamil occupancy rates, the highest reaching 29% in Chennai followed by Trichy. Overall, Thug Life’s box office collection day 2 stood at nearly Rs 1.6 crore. As the weekend approaches, the numbers are expected to rise.

Thug Life absence in Karnataka

The film Thug Life has not been released in Karnataka following backlash over Kamal Haasan’s alleged remarks seen as disrespectful to Kannada. His comments on the origin of the people speaking Kannada and the residents, deeply affected his perception in the state. Causing legal intervention, the Karnataka High Court emphasised that even celebrities must not hurt the sentiments of the public.
