Social Network Part Two: The Oscar-winning sequel to ‘The Social Network’ is set to return to the big screen. Directed by David Fincher, the new biopic promises to explore the darker side of Silicon Valley through the story of Mark Zuckerberg. Jesse Eisenberg, who portrayed Zuckerberg in the 2010 original, has declined to reprise his role, leaving producers searching for a new lead.

While no formal offers have been made, Jeremy Strong is the top contender for the role. Oscar nominee and Emmy winner, is best known for playing Kendall Roy in HBO’s ‘Succession’. He also appears as Jon Favreau, Bruce Springsteen’s manager, in ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.’ Strong’s other film credits include ‘Armageddon Time,’ ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7,’ and ‘The Gentlemen.’

Social Network 2: Why did Eisenberg back out?

As Aaron Sorkin returns to the screenplay table, he is also the director for the ‘Social Network 2’. Jesse Eisenberg, populary known for his role in the ‘Now You See Me’ series passed on the chance to portray Zuckerberg but the Hollywood Reporter suggested that it might be a “negotiating tactic” at play.

Social Network 2 was first announced in June, more than a decade later after its peak in 2010. Experts speculate that the sequel would be set in 2021, a post-COVID world when Horowitz’s ‘The Facebook Files’ came out.

Social Netwok Part Two: Cast and more

The film is expected to explore Facebook’s journey over the past ten years and Zuckerberg’s life in his thirties. Mikey Madison, known for Anora, and Jeremy Allen White from The Bear are reportedly in negotiations to portray whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal tech journalist Jeff Horwitz, respectively.
