‘Resident Alien’, Alan Tudyk’s sci-fi comedy show got canceled by Syfy/USA Network after four season as per the media reports. However, the three episodes of the show’s fourth season are yet to go air. The show has been considered as one of the smartest sci-fi drama comedy and will be ending its run at the end of this current season on USA Network. The upcoming Season 4 finale on August 8 will serve as a series finale.
What creator has to say?
Chris Sheridan creator and showrunner told TV Insider in an interview that, “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season, creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”
Resident Alien, the sci-fi comedy
The sci-fi comedy ‘Resident Alien’, based on the comic series by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, premiered on Syfy in January 2021. The show stars Alan Tudyk as a grumpy extraterrestrial who crash-lands on Earth and assumes the identity of Harry Vanderspiegle, a doctor in Patience, Colorado.
After its third season, ‘Resident Alien’ faced potential cancellation but was ultimately renewed with a reduced budget and a network change from Syfy to its sister NBCUniversal channel, USA. Season 4 debuted on USA in June. While the series’ ultimate fate has been decided, USA will broadcast the remaining three episodes on their scheduled dates over the next few weeks.
Despite gaining popularity from previous seasons streaming on Netflix, new episodes of ‘Resident Alien’ have seen modest ratings on cable, reflecting a general decline in viewership. According to Deadline, the show hasn’t gained much traction on NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock, either.
