‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry, who passed away on October 28, was found in his hot tub at his residence in an unconscious state. According to new agency records, it is being said that the cause of Matthew Perry’s death will require additional investigative steps by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office before it can be concluded.
The cause of his death was listed as “deferred” after it was updated online by the medical examiner on Sunday afternoon.
A deferred certificate is issued in cases where the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of autopsy. The certificate is issued until additional studies are completed, according to the guidelines of the LA coroner.
Results of toxicology reports are awaited while the autopsy has been conducted. Toxicology reports are required to determine Perry’s cause of death, CNN reported.
Such reports can take weeks to complete.
According to a law enforcement source the investigators are planning to use the toxicology reports to determine the contribution of any foreign substance (if any) in Matthew’s death.
Perry’s death is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division; however, no foul play is suspected, CNN reported citing a law enforcement source.
Records from the medical examiner showed on Sunday that the actor’s remains were prepared for distribution to his surviving relatives.
Spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department Brian Humphrey told CNN that a water rescue incident was reported via 911 on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. When the LAPD arrived at 4:10 p.m., they quickly declared the call to be a death investigation.
