The Surrey Police of Britain has officially ruled industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s death as non-suspicious, confirming that there are no criminal concerns related to the incident. The 53-year-old Sona Comstar chairman had collapsed while playing a polo match at Guards Polo Club in Surrey on June 12. Police have stated that ambulance teams reached the scene from the South East Coast Ambulance Service shortly after 5 pm and declared him dead. As no proof of foul play has been identified, the matter has been handed over to the Surrey Coroner’s office for non-criminal follow-up.

UK Coroner’s report on Sunjay Kapur’s death

Meanwhile, the UK Coroner’s report referenced through Priya Sachdev Kapur’s office has already announced the death due to natural causes. The reason behind the demise is because of left ventricular hypertrophy and ischemic heart disease. The report has also dismissed earlier public speculation of a bee sting or anaphylactic shock.

Rani Kapur seeks for independent investigation

Despite the official observations, Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother, has called for a deeper investigation. Represented by Senior Advocate, Vaibhav Gaggar, she has questioned the official statement, stating, “Throughout, we were given to understand that this is a bee sting…there is no mention of any bee or a sting …this report has only worsened those suspicions,” as quoted by PTI. Furthermore, in a letter to UK authorities written on July 24, she mentioned that the circumstances of his death were ‘’highly suspicious and unexplained,’’ and indicated that it may be part of a conspiracy. She has even stated forged documents and the transfer of assets as possible reasons behind the foul play.

After the tragic incident, Sona Comstar has undergone leadership changes, with Jeffery Mark appointed as chairman on June 23. Meanwhile, the succession battle has escalated. Rani Kapur has sought to postpone AGM decisions related to the appointment of Priya Sachdev Kapur as non-executive director, citing an alleged forceful takeover. However, the shareholders have approved the resolution on July 25 as family tension continues over corporate control. Recently, the stepdaughter of Sunjay, Safira, dropped her surname ‘’Chatwal’’ amid an inheritance conflict worth Rs 30,000 crore.
