Last week, Indian audiences had a variety of choices in streaming content as platforms rolled out fresh seasons of highly anticipated originals. From small-town political rivalries to international thrillers, OTT platforms recorded massive numbers of viewers.

According to viewership figures released on Monday, June 30, Panchayat Season 4, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, emerged as the most-watched original across platforms. The hit series, featuring Jitendra Kumar and Neena Gupta, registered a staggering 8.8 million views in its debut weekend, making it the most successful premiere for any OTT original in India this year so far.

The fourth installment of the widely celebrated rural dramedy returned with fresh political drama set in the fictional village of Phulera. This season’s storyline revolves around a fierce rivalry between Manju Devi (Neena Gupta) and Kranti Devi, heightening the local tensions and setting the stage for a high-stakes village election. Alongside Jitendra Kumar and Neena Gupta, the ensemble cast includes Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, Sanvikaa, Durgesh Kumar, Sunita Rajwar, and Pankaj Jha.

Created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Chandan Kumar, Panchayat 4 continues to be produced by The Viral Fever (TVF). The series, which debuted on June 24, received widespread acclaim for its relatable storytelling, gentle humour, and grounded portrayal of rural governance.

In second place on the streaming charts was Netflix’s Squid Game 3, which brought the globally successful Korean franchise to a dramatic conclusion. The third and final chapter of the survival drama premiered on June 27 and recorded 4.8 million views during its opening weekend in India.

Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the new season of Squid Game drew a mixed reaction from audiences and critics alike. While some lauded the emotionally intense finale, others felt it didn’t quite match the impact of earlier episodes. The storyline centered on protagonist Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), whose arc came to an emotional climax marked by a powerful act of self-sacrifice.

Other notable performers in the top five included Criminal Justice Season 4, the legal crime drama series which continues to maintain a loyal viewership base; The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3, which brought familiar laughs and celebrity banter; and Kerala Crime Files 2, a Malayalam-language thriller that has gone beyond its regional audience.

With multiple platforms releasing major content simultaneously, the final weekend of June proved to be one of the most competitive yet in the 2025 OTT calendar.
