Salman Khan‘s Trigeminal Neuralgia pain is a thing of the past now. But there was a time when even moving a hair strand from his face or a simple act of eating triggered the unbearable pain that radiated throughout his face, the actor revealed on Prime Video‘s Two Much With Kajol & Twinkle. The actor earlier spoke about the condition in the first episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3.
The Bollywood actor opened up about the condition that affected him for 7.5 years on and the diagnosis finally came when his doctors figured it was nerve pain, and not a dental issue.
Living with an aneurysm and AV malformation
While appearing with his Andaz Apna Apna co-star Aamir Khan on the show, the popular actor told the hosts and his former co-stars Kajol and Twinkle that there are still side effects that he is living with, but has made peace with them.
“It was taken care of at that time. Aneurysm is there and AV malformation is there but you can live with it. A lot of people are living with bypass surgery and heart conditions,” he said talking about the health complications that he still lives with.
First brush with the disease
Salman told hosts Kajol and Twinkle Khanna that he first experienced the excruciating Trigeminal Neuralgia pain on the sets of Partner, when Lara Dutta removed a hair strand from his face. “I was doing Partner and Lara was there. She just removed a hair strand from my face and it triggered the pain,” he said.
“The pain used to be such that you wouldn’t want your biggest dushman to have it,” he said.
Took me hour-and-a-half to finish breakfast
The superstar and Bigg Boss host revealed how the condition lasted for 7.5 years and left him in great pain that affected him every 4-5 minutes. “It used to take me hour and a half for breakfast and then I used to go straight to dinner,” he said.
Even eating an omelette was very painful was Salman as he forced himself to finish his breakfast slowly. This was despite him taking a high dose of painkillers.
The diagnosis came when the doctors finally realised that it wasn’t a dental, but a nerve issue.
“When they asked me when does this pain goes away, I told them that it reduces a bit and it keeps coming back at a bit longer intervals when he had a drink or two. That is when they realised that it is a nerve thing,” Salman told the hosts.
How Salman finally got rid of the suicidal disease
Salman describes it as the worst kind of pain and reveals that it is called suicidal disease because a lot of people having it are not able to tolerate it and get suicidal.
The actor ultimately underwent Gamma Knife surgery which took 8.5 hours to complete. However, it was worth it as the pain never returned.
