Bollywood singer-composer Sachin Sanghvi, known for his melodious songs in Thamma, Stree 2 and Bhediya has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman after promising her a chance in a music album and marriage, police said on Friday.
An official informed PTI that Sanghvi of the Sachin-Jigar music composer duo, was arrested on Thursday under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Details of the complaint
The complainant, a woman in her 20s was approached by the music composer via Instagram in February 2024 and promised her a chance in his music album, after which they exchanged contact numbers, police told the agency.
According to the allegations, the woman was called by Sanghvi to his studio, where he proposed marriage to her, and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. The singer was arrested after probe.
Sanghvi’s lawyer denies allegations
Sachin Sanghvi’s lawyer Aditya Mithe meanwhile has refuted the allegations in a media statement.
“The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There are absolutely no merits to the case. My client’s detention by the police was illegal and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intended to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally”.
Sachin Sanghvi started his career as assistant to music director Pritam, before starting out on his own along with Jigar Saraiya.
The music composer duo are behind hit songs like Apna Bana Le (Bhediya), Jeene Laga Hoon (Ramaiya Vastavaiya) and Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin (Meri Pyaari Bindu), among others.
His latest work includes ‘Tum Mere Na Huye’, and ‘Poison Baby’ songs in Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Thamma.
