Ranbir Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer ‘Roy’ box office collections have become the second biggest opening weekend grosser of the year with Rs 28.68 crore from the first three days in the domestic market and moved to Rs 32.33 on the fourth day (Monday).
Though ‘Roy’ movie numbers are good enough, they could not surpass first weekend box office collections of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ (Rs 36.07 crore) because the audiences stayed away from theatres because of the India-Pakistan match at the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2015 – even after the 4th day, ‘Baby’ numbers remained out of reach for ‘Roy’.
While ‘Roy’ managed to collect Rs 11.16 crore on Saturday, the Sunday box office collections had dropped to just Rs 7.12 crore as the morning and evening shows saw empty theatres – Team India in ICC Cricket World Cup to blame for making audiences stay home-bound. The India-Pakistan match-up is definitely irresistible and it would take something really special to drag the Indian male out to a theatre on match day. That ‘Roy’ was roundly panned in movie reviews by most, did not help either. (Roy movie review)

‘Roy’, which also features Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, made a good start with Rs 10.4 crore. In fact, the movie’s opening day business had beaten Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which made Rs 9.3 crore and Arjun Kapoor’s Tevar’s (Rs 7.05 crore), to top the opening grosser chart of 2015.
‘Roy’ box office collections as pegged by analyst Taran Adarsh:
#Roy Fri 10.40 cr, Sat 11.16 cr, Sun 7.12 cr [biz affected due to cricket match]. Total: ₹ 28.68 cr. India biz.

One of the most anticipated films, ‘Roy’ has not received good reviews from critics. However, it has done well in the box office and if it continues to do so for the rest of the week, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer could be a hit.
