As expected, Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ opened on a high note with reports from across the country suggesting a 60-70% occupancy rate across the morning shows, which is extremely good considering the fact that today is a working day – auguring very well for its box office collections. If the film maintains a similar pace in the afternoon and early evening shows, ‘PK’ box office collections on the opening day will be huge. The record to beat, of course, is Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Happy New Year’s Day 1 business of Rs 44.97 crore.

According to reports from Koimoi, the film has opened well in northern belt, Delhi and Noida despite severe cold wave. Rajasthan, Raipur, Nagpur, Indore, Pune, Kolkata were also good in the early shows. Thanks to Aamir’s Bhojpuri accent in the film, Bihar and UP too witnessed a decent occupancy. But it’s Mumbai which as usual did the best business in the early shows.

Looking at the reports, Mr Perfectionist’s one film a year concept coupled with the long running promotions, audience’s anxiety for the actor’s film release, the strong combo of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan, and the massive advance bookings that started on Monday, will in all probability push ‘PK’ to set new box office records.

Apart from this, the three week long run, in addition to the massive screen count with little to no competition, ‘PK’ is expected to do brisk business at the box office. Besides with good reviews, positive feedback from the audience and good word of mouth footfalls are expected to increase from evening show onwards.

‘PK’ also stars Anushka Sharma, Saurabh Shukla, Boman Irani, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput.

Needless to stay, the man himself, Aamir Khan too has been waiting and wondering as to how well the public takes to his latest release. This is evident from his tweet.
