According to the reports, Pakistan Censor Board has decided to put a ban on a song from the movie ‘Raees’ starring Sunny Leone and Shah Rukh Khan. The song is the remake of the 80’s superhit ‘Laila o Laila’ sung, (on screen) by Zeenat Aman, directed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Aman had shocked the movie world with the rendition that was deemed so sensuous that calls were made to ban it at that time. The new, Raees, version is directed by Ram Sampath.

The movie, an action thriller, along with starring Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Leone also stars Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The movie ‘Raees’ is directed by Rahul Dholakia and is set to release on the 26th of January 2017.

This step by the censor board of Pakistan looks to have been taken in the wake of the murder of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch by her brother following her risque photographs and videos that she regularly posted there. The link may be tenuous, if any, but the authorities are treading very cautiously to ensure no backlash is instigated.

Pakistan censor board regularly cracks down on Indian movies over the content it deems to be too fiery for its population. However, it had not been able to control the rise of Baloch or for that matter Veena Malik before her.
