Kelly Clarkson has once again postponed her Las Vegas residency, “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions – The Las Vegas Residency,” due to deeply personal reasons. The Grammy-winning artist shared a heartfelt message on Instagram revealing that her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, is facing a serious health battle.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” Clarkson, 43, wrote. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.” Clarkson and Blackstock, 48, share two children together, River, 10, and Remington, 8.
She added, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.” Her next performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace was scheduled for Friday, August 8.
A tough start to the Las Vegas residency show
This is the second time Clarkson has delayed her residency, which launched last month. On July 4, the day of her planned opening, Clarkson postponed the first two shows, explaining that her vocal cords had been strained from intense rehearsals.
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” she said at the time. “The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice.”
Back then, Clarkson explained she needed rest to avoid permanent damage. When the show finally kicked off on July 11, she apologised to fans during her set. “It took me a minute. I’m so sorry,” she said in a video posted to TikTok. “We can’t help our bodies sometimes. You know, we get sick, and that happens.”
Why has she cancelled her Las Vegas residency show?
Beyond vocal issues, sources close to Clarkson have revealed the emotional weight she has been carrying privately. One insider told Page Six that the singer is going through “hidden battles that very few people are privy to,” adding that her personal life is “so insanely complicated.”
Her recent residency troubles follow a string of unexplained absences from The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this year, during which she missed 10 episodes in March. Though Clarkson cited personal matters at the time, sources later claimed that her absence was linked to Blackstock’s illness.
“She took the kids to see him,” a source told NewsNation, indicating her priority has been their children.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married in 2013 and divorced in 2020 after a turbulent legal battle that ended in 2022. Speaking to Apple Music in 2023, Clarkson admitted the split took a toll on her: “Just to be brutally honest, I did not handle [the divorce] well.”
