After the massive success of Pawan Kalyan‘s ‘They Call Him OG’, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 is here to enthrall viewers with another gripping drama. Three years after the release of blockbuster Kantara, the film’s prequel has hit the theatres on Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti extended weekend, on October 2. While OG has slowed down after a week of breaking records and minting money at the box office, as of now it’s the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year at the worldwide box office. All eyes are now on Shetty’s Dasara release Kantara: Chapter 1, made on a staggering budget of Rs 125 crore.

As far as the advanced booking of the film is concerned, it picked momentum a day before its release on October 1. Sacnilk says the film’s collection stood at 2.5 cr for the opening day and is expected to close above 4 crore in pre-sales. This has surpassed Sky Force, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Jolly LLB 3 in advance collections but it’s nowhere compared to They Call Him OG. Sacnilk estimates the opening day collections in the range of 14–15 crore nett.

Going by the word of mouth, and reactions on social media, the film seems set to break records with audiences appreciating Rishab Shetty’s power-packed performance an the film’s spellbinding second half.

X users have hailed the ‘solid’ prequel, giving full marks to Shetty’s performance, film’s scintillating sequences, and an unforgettable climax. In words of one user, the film has ‘the best climax in Indian cinema’. While the film’s pace slows down a bit at some places, the technical brilliance and the tightly woven second half makes up for it.
