The Hurun Report, which frequently publishes research related to luxury spending and the lives of the wealthiest people in the world, just came out with the latest edition of their India Rich list for 2025. Industrialists and their families like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Cyrus Poonawalla, Kumar Mangalam Birla and others nabbed the top spots as usual. A surprising debut was made by the now-wealthiest woman in India and third on the list, Roshni Kumar Malhotra, chairperson of HCLTech. Perplexity founder Aaravind Srinivas was named India’s youngest billionaire at thirty one and several Bollywood personalities made an appearance in the list too.
An unexpected name on the rich list
For those who were young enough to remember and adore the iconic movie Swades, it may come as an interesting surprise that the husband of Gayatri Joshi who played Geeta has also made it to the list. In her prime, Joshi had won the title of Femina Miss India International pageant in 2000 and gone on to star in the critically acclaimed Swades alongside Shah Rukh Khan in 2004. That is her only acting credit to date because soon after that, she married business tycoon Vikas Oberoi in 2005 and retired from the film industry altogether. Oberoi who is a big name in the construction sector was associated with Oberoi Construction as its promoter then.
Today, as the chairman and managing director of Oberoi Realty, he has amassed a massive fortune which puts his net worth at a staggering Rs 42, 960 crores and ranks him 58th on the India Rich List 2025. He ranks ahead of others with the Bollywood connection like his wife’s former co-star, Shah Rukh Khan, Hritik Roshan, Karan Johar, Juhi Chawla and Amitabh Bachchan who have also made it to the list.
What is astounding to note is that Vikas Oberoi’s wealth surpasses the combined fortunes of all the Bollywood personalities who made it to the Hurun list. Shah Rukh Khan leads amongst his cohort with a net worth of Rs 12,490 crores owing to his production house Red Chillies Entertainment and other ventures. Juhi Chawla and family follow him in this regard with a combined fortune of Rs 7,790 crores which is due to their stake in the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by both Juhi and Shah Rukh.
Hritik Roshan is in third place with a net worth of Rs 2,160 crores due to his sportswear and athleisure brand HRX, while Karan Johar follows at fourth with a net worth of Rs 1,880 crores owing majorly to his stake in Dharma Productions. Finally, Amitabh Bachchan and family round off the list at the fifth spot with a net worth of Rs 1,630 crores due to their diverse investment portfolios.
Pooled together, their net worths amount to a hefty sum of Rs 25, 950 crores which is nothing to sneeze at. However, when one compares the combined wealth of Bollywood’s richest to that of Vikas Oberoi’s, the numbers falter.
